SportsPlus provides Athletic Training Outreach Coverage for:

  • East Marshall High School
  • Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School
  • Green Mountain-Garwin High School
  • West Marshall High School
  • Marshalltown Middle Schools
    (Anson & Miller)
  • Marshalltown Community College

We also provide a Saturday Morning Walk-in Clinic.

  • Available Saturdays during football season from late August through the end of October.
  • This is a first-come, first-served, free clinic in which no appointments are needed.
  • A member of the SportsPlus professional staff will perform a complimentary screening for your injury or condition.
  • The clinic opens at 9AM for these fall season clinics.

SportsPlus serves the area communities by providing sports medicine services at area events:

  • The Cornman Triathlon
  • Marshalltown Area Soccer Club's Annual Tournament
  • Grimes Farm Benefit Run

SportsPlus is a community partner, providing services at:

  • School & Community Health Fairs
  • Educational seminars and guest lectures
  • Community and Charitable Events
  • Interacting with high school students across the state, through Iowa Public Television Network’s (IPTV) School to Careers program, on the professions of physical therapy and athletic training.
  • Speaking to area schools on health related issues, as well as the professions of physical therapy, athletic training and occupational therapy.
  • Speaking to area service groups.
 
     
 
Brett Hand

Brett Hand, MA, ATC, CSCS
Director of Sports Medicine & Outreach

 
Brett is a certified athletic trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist, who received his BS in athletic training from East Tennessee State University and a MA in Exercise Science from Furman University. He has served as Head Athletic Trainer at Union College (Kentucky) and Edgewood College (Wisconsin). While at Edgewood he also managed the college's fitness center and served as the strength and conditioning coach.
   
Scott Carnahan

Scott M. Carnahan, MS, MPT, ATC
Director of Services

 
Scott is the owner of SportsPlus. He received his degrees in athletic training and physical therapy from The University of Iowa and a masters degree from Western Illinois University. Scott specializes in treating complex conditions of the lumbar spine, foot/ankle, and upper extremity conditions relating to the throwing athlete. He is married to Brenda and together they have 3 children, Grant, Kyle, and Maggie. Scott enjoys sports and fitness activities, including coaching his children’s sporting activities and is a member of Marshalltown Rotary
   
Jake Ellingson

Jake Ellingson, MSPT, ATC, CSCS
Clinic Manager

 
Jake is originally from Minnesota and attended the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse where he earned a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy. He has also become a certified athletic trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist since graduating. Jake joined the SportsPlus staff in 2001 and he enjoys working with the rehabilitation of sports-related injuries. Jake and his wife, Sarah, live just outside of Marshalltown and he enjoys all kinds of sporting activities.
   
Mandy Hoodjer Mandy Hoodjer, MS, PT, ATC
 

Mandy is originally from Greene, Iowa. She attended the University of Northern Iowa for two years, studying biology and athletic training, before transferring to University of Iowa. She graduated with a BS in Exercise Science with an emphasis on Athletic Training. Mandy received her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Mayo School of Health Related Sciences in Rochester, Minnesota. Following graduation, Mandy worked in the Chicago area at an outpatient sports medicine clinic before returning back to Iowa.

Her interests include sports medicine rehabilitation, injury prevention, and manual therapies. In her spare time, Mandy enjoys watching any sporting event (especially the Iowa Hawkeyes), playing a variety of sports, or doing anything outdoors.

   
Todd Smith Todd Smith, MS, ATC
 
Todd is originally from Buffalo Center, Iowa and attended Central College where he obtained a BA in Exercise Science. Todd received his MS in Athletic Training from UNI. Todd’s clinical interests are core and pelvic stabilization and functional rehabilitation. He currently lives in Toledo, Iowa with his wife Amber. Todd will have clinical responsibilities along with being the Head Athletic Trainer at MCC.
